"One of the most important reasons for using sisal in our baskets is locality. Sisal is a durable natural fiber that also grows in dry and hot areas, and no chemical fertilizers are used in its production.
Compared to other natural fibers typically used in weaving, such as jute, rattan, seagrass, and water hyacinth, sisal is more durable and also antistatic. Sisal can be dyed better than seagrass or water hyacinth, allowing it to be used in making baskets and bags of different colors.
Compared to rattan, sisal is a much softer and more flexible material. Unlike a rattan basket, a basket made of sisal can be "shaped." By folding the top edge, you get a new look and a lower basket. By folding the basket down, you can store it in a small space on a shelf or in a drawer and stack baskets on top of each other."
